The HSG replaced the HEG as Hondo's SG-style offering around 1976. It was mostly a copy of the Ibanez 1906 model. For 1977, the HSG-2C was introduced, with a carved leaf motif on the body and pickguard mounted controls. Around 1978, the HSG-2 was updated with pickguard-mounted controls, and by 1980, dot inlays. It was succeeded by the H-727.
