The Fame Series was introduced in 1984 as a line of Fender copies with stock Grover Rotomatic tuners. Over time, it expanded to include a few non-Fender copies. It was also treated as a sub-brand of Hondo. The Fame Mastercaster Series, introduced in mid-1984, took it to another level with stock Kahler Flyer tremolos and solid wood bodies.
Note: The Grover Rotomatics used on early examples have larger button posts (4mm diameter from flat side to flat side) than modern Rotomatics. Therefore, modern replacement buttons will not fit them. The change occurred some time in 1984, although it is unknown how long it may have taken Hondo to use up all of the older style tuners.
